11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.Surrounding the Dragon of Back Pain: An Integrative ~ Holistic Approach (L)Paul will explain his holistic approach to working with chronic back-pain clients. The etiology and progression of back pain can be multi-dimensional: you’ll learn that it is often an expression of some other imbalance in the body, and not purely musculo-skeletal in origin. Critical to this understanding is how the hierarchy of control centers in the body – illustrated by the CHEK Totem Pole – can be used to determine exercise priorities. Concepts will be illustrated with case histories and practical demonstrations, and you’ll leave with practical approaches to prioritizing your efforts when working with clients who suffer from chronic back pain.
1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.Lunch Break2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.The CHEK Approach to Shoulder Training (L)Take a trip through the functional, interactive anatomy of the shoulder and discover how you can develop better preventative, performance, and corrective exercise programs. You’ll look at the shoulder’s musculo-skeletal structures and how it is integrated in the entire body, including the organ and hormonal systems. The common causes of impingement, rotator cuff issues, shoulder instability, and pain will be discussed. Paul will demonstrate modified exercises to reduce and prevent shoulder injury in the gym. You’ll come away with a greater appreciation of how to “assess, not guess” and how to maintain shoulder health and optimal function for your clients. 2
